Negativity is always a self fulfilling prophecy You always hear people say that your thoughts become your actions which in return become your reality. I’ve learned this to be true, especially when thinking negatively about a situation. The funny thing is, even though it’s obvious that negative thinking gets you absolutely nowhere, it took being removed from the situation, my comfort zone and some self reflection while running to really understand how my thoughts impact the outcome of a situation. While self reflecting on past events in my life, one time period that came to mind was the time I spent with the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders organization as a member of their Training Program. Thinking back, the first year I auditioned for the MVC I didn’t believe in myself. I always thought that the other applicants were better dancers, more flexible, in better shape, etc. So you can imagine my excitement when I made the Training Program – a group of high potential candidates who work with coaches over 10 months to polish dance style, technique, fitness levels and everything else related to the world of professional cheerleading. Even after making the Training Program and experiencing success I still had […]

Thanksgiving Hike It’s been awhile since I last updated everyone on our adventures in Chiang Mai, so I thought I’d get right back into with our recent Thanksgiving hike. Thanksgiving is the perfect day to put away all electronics, remember to sit back and truly take in your surrounds, enjoy the simple pleasures in life and enjoy the company of those who are meaningful to you. While Kyle and I were away from our families for the first time on Thanksgiving, we got to spend the day with our Chiang Mai family, and I must say it was one of the most memorable Thanksgivings I’ve ever had! Hiking is good for what? One of my favorite aspects about traveling is being able to hike all over. You really get a sense of how the terrain varies around the world. Plus you never get sick of the view since there’s always something new to see. It’s also, in my opinion, one of the best forms of exercises while traveling since you can combine entertainment, sight seeing and exercise into one neat little package. Talk about killing a few birds with one […]

20 Fitness Motivational Quotes to get you going I have a confession to make. Around April 2014 I began having issues with fitness motivation. (Insert gasp!) I know, how can the writer of a fitness blog have issues with fitness motivation? The following are the reasons why I believe I fell off the fitness wagon. 1) I stopped dancing. Being apart of the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders Training Program was such a great way to stay in shape. Between practices, training resources provided to my team, and the fact that we were encouraged to maintain our fitness levels for MVC auditions, I was not lacking fitness motivation in any way. 2) I moved from Minnesota to New Mexico. Learning a new city and getting established took time and energy. My established fitness routine with my favorite Discover Strength trainers was derailed. 3) I started my own business and became a fitness instructor. Between putting pressure on myself to work many hours, and not wanting to stop working because I was “in the zone”, I often skipped workouts. 4) Kyle and I made the decision to move to Thailand. This is point number 2 x 100. I let myself down As I slowly […]

One Hot & Sweaty Spin Session Did you know: You can burn between 450-750 calories during 1 hour of spin class. Cycling is a low impact workout, and is great for those with joint issues. Spinning is fantastic for improving your cardiovascular health. While spinning you can adjust the resistance to mimmic different terrains, and to challenge yourself. Spinning is a great full body workout. Incorporate dumbbells or resistance bands for extra upper body toning. You may experience a rush of endorphins during and after a spin class which helps improve mental health. Plus it makes you feel good! Finding that “in the zone” moment is an incredibly powerful feeling which can help you find focus and ambition for the rest of the day. It’s the perfect time to tackle that project you’ve been delaying! A spin bike takes up a small amount of space, and is a great addition to your home gym. Hot Yoga It might be cold outside, but it’s sweltering in hot yoga! One of my favorite parts about winter is that you can enjoy 100 degrees of sweaty heat in hot yoga…or maybe it’s that you can jump in a pile of snow after spending 90 minutes engulfed in 100 degrees of sweaty heat. Either way hot yoga and winter complement each other like peanut butter and jelly. Enjoy the heat, shed the layers and pretend it’s summer with this adorable outfit!
