My name is Kate, and I am the owner and founder of fitGevity. I started fitGevity in May 2014 after leaving my cushy government job, and making the move from Minneapolis, MN to Albuquerque, NM. Moving across the country was the perfect opportunity to purse my dream of starting my own business in the fitness world. While brainstorming business ideas I was reminded of an instance where I was using a 41″ loop band in a personal training session, but was disappointed in the lack of versatility due to the fact that the band didn’t have handles. Therefore, I started researching 41″ loop band sets that came with handles or other accessories, but failed to come across a set I loved. In that moment fitGevity was born; I started creating what I consider to be my perfect 41″ loop band set. I wanted a set that was versatile and durable. This lead to testing many products and ultimately creating a custom 41″ loop band set. From there, accessories and a traditional tube band set were added to my product list.
My love of fitness started at a young age in my dance studio. We spent countless hours practicing dance technique, stretching and building strength. After years of dancing in a studio I auditioned for the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders and was invited to join their Training Program for the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. During that time I was introduced to a new level of fitness training. My team was pushed to the limit physically especially when we started working with personal trainers from Discover Strength. These trainers focus on performing one set of an exercise until failure. I have never seen such huge changes in my body composition or endurance with any other type of training, and noticed the same results for the girls on my team. From that moment on, I have strength trained the DS way.
In May 2014 I moved to Albuquerque, NM with my boyfriend, Kyle, for his job. Not only did fitGevity get its start during this time, but I was also able to pursue my dream of becoming a fitness instructor. Shortly after arriving in Albuquerque I started training and began working as a barre instructor at BODYLANGUAGE, a studio that specializes in Pilates, barre, yoga, TRX and spin classes. I learned so much from the amazing instructors and owner of BODYLANGUAGE, and am very grateful for having had the opportunity to work with them.
The workouts you will find on this site combine elements from Discover Strength and BODYLANGUAGE. The exercises are meant to be performed as one set until failure. This means that a suggested number of reps are not included with each exercise because the number of reps will be different for each person.
Recently the unexpected has happened. Kyle and I have temporarily moved Thailand for the next 6 months. This is a journey neither of us saw coming and we are ecstatic to have the opportunity to be immersed in another culture for an extended period of time. This opportunity is perfect for fitGevity. The beauty of resistance bands is that can easily be stuffed in a bag and your personal gym can be set up anywhere. Now fitGevity will be put to the test and will provide the ultimate Travel Fitness Guide for those who travel once every few years to those who travel on a regular basis. Stay tuned for the exciting adventures to come; I hope you enjoy!
