This time zone change is cramping my style…
It’s our second full day in Bangkok and I’m still falling asleep around 5:00 PM due to the time zone change. It’s terrible falling asleep at 5:00 PM, waking up at 9:30 PM, and so on. I must say it’s really killing my motivation to work, exercise, or enjoy the night market everyone is talking about.
Tonight, however, I’m very proud of myself! After waking up at 7:24 PM all I wanted to do was go back to sleep, but I forced myself to get up. I mean really, if I’m ever to get use to the 12 hour time difference I have to try to stay awake until a reasonable bed time. Instead of reading or watching a movie I decided to get the blood flowing and do a bit of a workout. At first I wanted to lay on the floor and go back to sleep, but after a few minutes of moving around I was just fine. Even though I have access to a full gym and have fitGevity resistance bands with me, a body weight workout seemed like right choice. My workout went something like this:
- 5 minute cardio warm up: alternated between high knees, jumping jacks and butt kicks.
- 10 minutes of stretching; making sure to fully stretch from head to toe.
- Upper body: pushups, tricep pushups.
- Lower body: stationary lunges, glute bridge.
- Core: plank, side plank, spine strengthening.
- 5 minute stretching cool down.
- Full workout to come!
It’s like being a new person!
My workout was pretty fast, but effective. I felt almost normal again and now have enough energy to get a few hours of work done. I’d say that’s success! It’s so easy while traveling, especially when there is a 12 hour time change, to skip the physical activity aspect of your day. However, this little experiment of mine shows that moving, even slightly, can help put you back on track. Even if you only have 15 minutes a 5 minute cardio warm up and 10 minutes of stretching will do wonders for your productivity levels. Not to mention that you’re body will love you lots more. In conclusion, get up, get moving and then get back to your agenda for the day. Time to do some shopping!
